ASPEN ACRES FIRE UPDATE
The lines on the northwestern edge of the fire that I had a report from yesterday where a lot of work was being done to protect Greenwood and Wetmore have held. The fire has burned up to the lines and crews have continued to mop up hot spots.
On Wednesday, the fire was most active in two areas, on on the western edge of the fire between Fairview and Beulah. I saw this plume as it was becoming active in the late morning when we were driving from the Wetmore area to Aspen Acres. I’ve included the picture here. This area is heavy timber just on the western side of the Custer/Pueblo County line. I’d assume with time that unburned area to the east of the new growth will end up being consumed by the fire.
The other area of growth was along Siloam Road on the northeast corner. This area also received some rain late in the day that prompted the second flash flood warning of the afternoon to be issued by the weather service. I’m hopeful it was enough to bring the temp of the fire down. Notice in this area with the satellite mapping back behind the burned fire that the fire is getting to the end of the heavier fuels…this should help to reduce the risk of rapid fire spread to the northeast as it’s out of the heavier timber on this northeast side.
