ASPEN ACRES UPDATE – LATE TUESDAY, IN DETAIL
New growth from the fire stems from active burn in a very challenging area northwest of Rye. This has been the highest priority for the Alaska Incident Management Team in their last few days of overseeing the fire fight. This is the area where residents have been contacted to see if lines can be constructed on private property, dozers have gone as high up the hillside as they can, and crews have been building handlines downslope. There is concern about structure protection in Rye if this area of the fire were to get out of control.

Farther north, fuel removal operations have been done by day and night crews to remove fuel between constructed lines and the fire. Aerial assets have been assisting crews with managing fire starts that have been set to consume fuel. The new growth of the fire, now over 99,000 acres is primarily from these two areas.

Crew also report a continued, but lesser concerned, with heat in the ground on the northeast side of the fire where there are no containment lines in place. Crews remain in the area to combat potential new growth and to hit any hot spots.
