Fire Burning in Pueblo on Fountain Creek near Mall

FIRE ON FOUNTAIN CREEK IN PUEBLO: It’s being called the “Target Fire” on agency radio – I’m sure Target loves that – burning behind the Target and Pueblo Mall near I-25 north of downtown Pueblo. It’s just south of where CO-47 crosses the creek.

Check out this great shot that Angelo Peña shared with Peaks2Plains Weather of a chopper making a drop. While there is no official containment noted at this point, the smoke plume is a lot less active than earlier this afternoon – which is good news because the wind has picked up from when the fire first started around 1:30pm.

Wind gusts across southern Colorado as of 3pm, Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Not out of the woods, but all things considered, we’re ok so far. Peaks2Plains Weather is on it!
