LATE WEEK STORM POTENTIAL: Two waves will move across the western U.S. A lead wave that moves from the southern Coast of California across the U.S. and Mexico border through New Mexico before at some point it starts kicking to the northeast. The second wave comes in behind it from the northwest.

We’re getting indications that these systems will eventually congeal and merge. Our questions to focus on over the next several days are does this merging happen over the Rockies or just to the east. It’s a really important detail. If you want snow east of the mountains in southern Colorado you best be rooting for these system to merge closer to home than over Nebraska and Kansas.
We’re going to get colder either way and the high country will get snow too. I’ll keep working on it and updating you! Posted January 3, 2026
