COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Peaks2Plains Weather announced today that longtime Southern Colorado meteorologist Rachael Plath is joining the company’s expanding weather team, further strengthening what is now the most experienced broadcast-style weather staff in the region.
Plath joins Peaks2Plains Weather founder Matt Meister and veteran meteorologist Merry Matthews, giving the digital-first weather company three former Southern Colorado television chief meteorologists working together under one brand.
“Rachael is a long-time favorite, a highly intelligent meteorologist, and an excellent communicator,” said Matt Meister, founder of Peaks2Plains Weather. “I was honored to hire her when she first arrived in town nearly 15 years ago. Personally, I was proud when Rachael took over for me as chief meteorologist when I first stepped away from television to spend more time with my young family. Now, I love that she is bringing her knowledge and skills to Peaks2Plains Weather.”
Originally from Minnesota, Plath studied meteorology at Arizona State University before earning her degree in Meteorology and Mathematics. She has served Southern Colorado viewers for more than a decade and remains a familiar and trusted voice in local weather coverage.
“My career started when Matt took a chance on a green meteorology graduate,” said Plath. “He then proceeded to teach me everything I know about forecasting.”
After stepping away from broadcasting to focus on raising her family, Plath said the opportunity to join Peaks2Plains Weather alongside Meister and Matthews made the decision to return an easy one.
“After a years-long hiatus to start a family, Merry convinced me it was time to come out of ‘retirement’ and back to TV,” Plath said. “The fact that these two pivotal influencers in my life have formed an alliance and invited me to be a part of this movement is an absolute honor.”
“What makes this team unique is that each of us has served as a chief meteorologist here,” said Merry Matthews. “And that alone brings a different strength to the table at Peaks2Plains Weather.”
Matthews added that the team shares a common philosophy rooted in science, communication, and community service.

Plath said those values were a major factor in her decision to join the organization.
“Accuracy and accountability have been the foundation of my forecasting career,” Plath said. “I couldn’t be happier to team up with meteorologists I not only respect and admire, but who also uphold these same standards.”
The company says Plath will contribute during active weather coverage, severe weather events, and across the company’s growing digital platforms, while also helping provide flexibility for the team’s family-focused work culture.
“To have the opportunity to work with chiefs from the same station at which I also had the opportunity to be a chief is a dream come true,” Plath said. “I love learning and perfecting my craft to continually provide the quality forecast my community deserves, and I am so thankful to get to do so alongside Matt and Merry.”
