As summer has come to an end, it’s time to reflect…
Summer 2026 tied with Summer of 2020 in Colorado Springs as the 3rd Hottest Summer on record! The average temperature for the months of June, July and August in Colorado Springs was 72.6°, which is 2.7° above average. The hottest summer ever recorded in Colorado Springs was Summer of 2012.
In Pueblo, despite breaking the record for the most 100° days by hitting triple digits 10 times, it was only the 2nd Hottest Summer on record. The average temperature in Pueblo was 77.5°, which is 2.9° above average. The hottest summer ever recorded in Pueblo was Summer of 1970.
As for rain totals, Colorado Springs came up dry while Pueblo actually ended up wetter than average!
In Colorado Springs, 3.24 inches of rain fell which is 5.11 inches below average. This qualifies Summer of 2026 as the 7th driest on record. Pueblo received 6.33 inches which is 1.05 inches above average, qualifying Summer of 2026 in Pueblo as the 35th wettest.
Looking ahead to September, it looks like the heat will continue while precipitation chances should be average for most with the exception of the mountains where above average precipitation is forecast!
To put into perspective what that could mean, the average high temperature at the beginning of September in Colorado Springs is 81° and at the end of the month is 72°. The average high temperature at the beginning of the month in Pueblo is 88° and 77° by the end of the month.
Average precipitation for the month of September in Colorado Springs includes 1.35 inches of rain and 0.2 inches of snow! In Pueblo, the averages include 0.65 inches of rain and 0.2 inches of snow.
Of course, with a warmer than average trend expected through September it is looking unlikely at this point to have any early season snows for the lower elevations… but, it’s a weather element we’ll be increasingly on the lookout for as the month progresses and Fall gets underway.
