Wind Divides Colorado: Fire and Ice

BY THE NUMBERS: Grids tell the story across different parts of the state over the next 48 hours. Crested Bute sees the wind and snow really move in Tuesday morning as the cold front moves across the area. Check the gusts, the visibility and the consistent snow into Wednesday. Travel will get difficult in the high country.
For the eastern mountains, Woodland Park is good representative choice. Wind picks up later Monday night and Tuesday as the cold front approaches and moves through. There is a tight window Tuesday morning when the front is moving through of an hour or two window for a burst of snow. See the snow chance go up to 40% and the visibility come down at 8am Tuesday? On the high end of things, this could be a quick snow squall that reduces visibility and puts down some quick snow on grass and trees. It won’t last too long if you catch it!

There’s no shot at showers over the plains with the passage of the Tuesday morning cold front. The downslope erodes any shot at that. What does happen in Lamar, and a lot of the plains is the wind jumps up in speed and gusts, becomes more westerly in nature and drops the humidity. The most critical fire weather conditions on Tuesday occur once the front has passed. There will be some improvement Tuesday night due to cooling temps and the strongest wind relaxing.
