24 Fire: Overnight expansion, cold front arriving

Fire visible from Lake Pueblo State Park late Saturday evening, March 21, 2026. The 24 Fire is burning along and east of highway 115 on the border of Fremont, El Paso, and Pueblo Counties on Fort Carson Army Post.

24 FIRE UPDATE: It’s been an active night at the fire with a persistent glow and occasional flames visible across the surrounding area. Satellite hot spot detections show expansion to the southeast overnight into northwestern Pueblo County, on post at Fort Carson. Posted Sunday morning. Satellite hot spot detections show the fire has burned east over Wild Mountain, and, as of this writing remains west of Camp Red Devil. At least some of what you saw overnight was burn operations perform to provide structure protection from Camp Red Devil and to provide fuel use in advance of the cold front currently arriving over the fire.

Satellite hot spots represented in dots, indicating temperature, overlayed with 24 Fire perimeter as of Sunday morning, March 22, 5am.
The weather grid shows important weather for the fire by the numbers. The gusty north wind behind the front will decrease in the mid morning before becoming stiff out of the southeast for the remainder of the day. This post-frontal air proves a cooler afternoon with temperatures in the 60s for the warmest part of the day, and humidity levels in the 20%-30% range. While not great, it’s an astronomical improvement from the 35-6% humidity and 0° dewpoint over the fire Saturday afternoon.

Another wind shift this evening as the mountain-plains circulation works its diurnal magic and some excellent humidity recovery Sunday night that should help the fire lay down.
