Now that we’ve had the first real snow storm of the season on the Front Range, the ski resorts are looking forward to northwest flow into early next week. There are two waves that will move through the state in this northwest flow and the central and northern ski resorts look to benefit most. Many of the resorts in Summit County, along I-70, and Winter Park and Steamboat do well with northwest flow due to the orientation of the Rockies in the northern part of the state. In addition to the larger scale lift with the passing waves, orographic lift will give a boost.
Steamboat in particular should do well, with a 10-16″ snow likely between the two waves.
The second one may bring some snow to the Palmer Divide and higher terrain of the Pikes Peak Region by early Wednesday morning. Something to watch!
