We’ve got another late season storm set to cruise through. This one is colder than the last one…I’ve got a Chinese Elm in my yard that leafed out over the weekend…so, a colder storm with snow for more areas…and another five days or so into the green-up season.
That combination could be too much for some branches. As you probably have realized, all snow is not the same. These late season (and early season) storms have a lower ratio of snow to water than storms in the middle of winter.

Colorado is famous for champagne powder at the ski resorts because we sometimes get 30 or 40:1 ratios of snow in the dead of winter at the tops of our slopes. Well, this is the other end of the spectrum. These temperatures are going to yield some classic mid-west cement type stuff. Running around an 8:1 ratio below 8,000′ this is going to be heavy and pull down on branches that are leafed out. Not only damage to the tree, but sometimes to adjacent power lines, too.
We had some outages last week in the mountains…and we’re probably more likely to have some this go round.

@heidrichsctfn @heidrichs.ctfn – will tell you the water is great, but the late season freeze behind the snow isn’t. If you have questions about what to do, give them a call.
